LuckyStrike502 asked:

A man named Francis relates a story about his best friend Alan and his fiancée Jane. Alan takes him to a fair where they meet Dr. Caligari, who exhibits a somnambulist, Cesare, that can predict the future. When Alan asks how long he has to live, Cesare says he has until dawn. The prophecy comes to pass, as Alan is murdered, and Cesare is a prime suspect. Cesare creeps into Jane’s bedroom and abducts her, running from the townspeople and finally dying of exhaustion. Meanwhile, the police discover a dummy in Cesare’s cabinet, while Caligari flees. Francis tracks Caligari to a mental asylum. He is the director! Or is he? The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is in the public domain, and you can download it here for free: www.archive.org

    Such a great movie! I was watching TV when I saw the sped up version on here! I thought when I bought a budget DVD, I found out that the running time was altered! THANKS, PBS! {Always showing the crappiest prints on TV, though this print is not half-bad!}

    @valchevgeorgi Yep, and this is the “condensed” version. It’s sped up to make it 20 minutes shorter.

    Who needs NETFLIX when you have great channels like this one to view classics? Thanks!

    The media should go back to making silent films. Silent films make you read, and they make you listen to awesome music.

    @wtf1999 Actually, it was filmed in December 1919 through January 1920, and first premiered in February 1920.

    I saw this movie with redone music. It grated on my ears but was strangely neat.
    I’m glad your upload has the original so I can compare them ^^
    By the way this movie is great, you can see a lot of stuff Tim Burton got just from this movie. Edward Scissor Hands looks like Ceaser no?
    And the landscapes? NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS! This movie (and the German experssionalist style) apparently had a great influence on many things.
